We all know people who have recently lost their jobs. Maybe you're lucky enough to still have a paycheck, but for how long? Fortunately there are several simple things you can do to make yourself unfireable.
Be the First to Arrive and the Last to Leave
Showing up to work first and leaving last shows your boss that you are dedicated to your job. Make sure to leave your office door open so your boss can see you putting in the long hours.
Cut the Company's Costs
Take a look at where your company is spending its money. Then see if there are ways to reduce those costs. Your boss won't fire someone who is improving the company's bottom line.
Make the Company More Money
Even better, figure out ways to increase revenue. Find a new client or develop new products and services for your company to sell. (See also: How to Make an Extra Income.)
Just Say No to Drama
Be sure to avoid drama whenever possible. If someone starts gossiping to you, simply excuse yourself by saying "I'm so sorry, I really have to finish this project. Maybe we can catch up later after work?" This way you can avoid the drama without being too rude to the gossiper.
Be Aware
Even though you should avoid drama, try to stay informed about what other people are saying about you. If you know what is being said about you, you can figure out how to improve your relationships with coworkers or know if you need to step it up. By being aware of how you are perceived, you can always be on top of your game.
Learn New Skills
Take advantage of any training, certification, or back-to-school programs offered by your employer. The more skills you develop the more valuable you become to your employer. If your company doesn't offer any programs, buy some new books and start training yourself.
Give Progress Reports
Make sure your boss knows how hard you are working and what you are working on by giving him or her progress reports on a weekly basis. If your boss has evidence that you are pulling your weight, he or she will be less likely to fire you.
Make Everybody Love You
Be friendly with everyone. Never say anything negative, mean, or condescending. No matter how much you hate your job, always show up with a smile on your face. (See also: How to Thrive in a Job You Hate).
Show You Are a Leader
If you are on a new project and no one seems to be taking charge, step up and be a leader. They can't fire you if you're the point person of an important ongoing project.
Show You Are a Team Player
You have to be able to work well with your coworkers. Listen to their suggestions. Adapt to each person's idiosyncrasies. Treat each coworker with respect and courtesy. If you can't be a member of a team, chances are you won't survive the next layoff.
Get Personal
Make sure your boss knows about your family by keeping pictures of them on your desk or bringing them to company parties when appropriate. Also, show an interest in your boss's family in return. Employers are less likely to fire someone they have a personal relationship with. Just be wary of over sharing. Keep personal conversations light and upbeat.
Don't Take Unfair Advantage of Sick Days
Only take a sick or personal day when you absolutely need to do so. Be honest with yourself--are you really sick or just sick of going into work? Whenever you're feeling lazy, just remember the countless unemployed people who would love to have your job.
Take on Responsibilities that No One Else Wants to Do
Chances are there are responsibilities at your company that no one wants to do because, well, they are tedious and boring. Bite the bullet and offer to take on the task that no one wants to do. Your boss (and coworkers) will love you for it.
Positivity Goes a Long Way
By remaining positive during tough times, you can help create a more optimistic work environment. Positive people are always the last ones to get fired.
Don't Abuse Internet Privileges
It is very easy for companies to track what you do on your computer while in the office, especially online activities. Stay off of Facebook, don't check your personal emails, don't surf the web, and don't use your company email address to send personal emails.
Be the Social Chair
Who would want to fire the life of the party? Probably no one, so make yourself the social chair at your company. Come up with fun events that your coworkers actually want to participate in. You will boost company morale by making sure everyone is having a good time and make your boss think twice about handing you a pink slip.
Chances are good that you're making a few of these common mistakes on your resume. How many are you guilty of?
1. Relying on outdated sources of advice. Resume conventions have changed dramatically in the last 20 years. If you're reading a book that insists you use an objective on your resume or that you can't exceed one page, chances are good that you're reading something outdated (or listening to someone who hasn't hired recently).
2. Including every job you've ever had, no matter how irrelevant or long ago. A resume isn't meant to be an exhaustive accounting of every job you've ever held. It's a marketing document designed to present you in the strongest, most compelling light. That means you don't need to include every job you've ever had, or the part-time work you did on top of your regular job last year, or even your degree in an irrelevant field if you don't want to. You get to decide what you do and don't include. The only rule is that you can't make things up.
3. Listing only job duties, rather than accomplishments. Resumes that really stand out go beyond what your job description was and instead answer this question: What did you accomplish in this job that someone else might not have?
4. Including subjective descriptions. Your resume is for experience and accomplishments only. It's not the place for subjective traits, like "great leadership skills" or "creative innovator." Hiring managers generally ignore anything subjective that an applicant writes about herself, because so many people's self-assessments are wildly inaccurate; they're looking for facts.
5. Leaving out volunteer work. Sometimes during the course of an interview, I discover someone has highly relevant experience they didn't include on their resume because it was volunteer work and they thought it "didn't count." It counts! Your accomplishments are your accomplishments, even if you did the work "pro bono" rather than for pay.
6. Including inappropriate information. Information about your spouse or children, your height or weight, or your salary history doesn't belong on your resume. (And yes, people really do include these things.)
7. Getting creative at the expense of clarity. If you're thinking of trying something "creative" with your resume, like unusual colors or a non-traditional design, make sure your desire to stand out isn't getting in the way of the whole point of resume design. Here's what most hiring managers want from a resume: a concise, easy-to-scan list of what you've accomplished, organized chronologically by position, plus any particularly notable skills, all presented in a format that they can quickly scan and get the highlights. That's it. Creativity, while a nice trait, doesn't trump those requirements, so make sure whatever format you use works in those ways.
8. Having tiny inconsistencies. If you want to come across as someone who takes care in your work and is attentive to detail, pay attention to the small things: Do you have periods after some bullet points but not after others? Do you use consistent verb tenses throughout? Do you randomly start using a different font or type size? These things seem nitpicky, but even small inconsistencies can jump out to an attentive reader.
9. Sending your resume without a cover letter. If you're applying for jobs without including a compelling cover letter--customized to the specific opportunity--you're missing out on one of the most effective ways to grab an employer's attention. A cover letter is your opportunity to make a compelling case for yourself as a candidate, totally aside from what's in your resume.
10. Believing every piece of resume advice anyone gives you. Yes, it may sound funny coming from me, but the reality is that you can give your resume to 10 different people who are all qualified to give resume advice, and you'll get 10 different sets of recommendations: Use this font, use that font, don't go over one page, two pages are fine, objectives are required, objectives are silly--it can be enough to drive you crazy.
This desire for the perfect, risk free solution where bad manager goes away and everyone else lives happily ever after is not likely to happen.
If you wait until you have the perfect solution, you will miss all of the good enough solutions.
Here are 5 things you should do.
1. Document, document, document. You said you had a whole host of complaints about your manager. Document these, but not just as a list of faults, but as a list of examples. So, you don't write, "Manager is rude." You write, "On March 1, Manager interrupted Tanya 6 times in a five minute discussion. She raised her voice and called three people idiots."
2. Talk directly to the HR person who is investigating. Don't rely on Tanya to relay information. Don't assume the HR person will come to you if she wants to hear your side of the story. Make your own appointment, or grab the HR person in the hall, but go and talk to her now.
3. Encourage your coworkers to do the same thing. If all of you explain what's going on, the powers that be will be better able to understand what the true problem is.
4. Make sure you are direct and clear. People tend to downplay the problem when asked directly. So, when you go to the HR person say clearly, "This is not about a conflict between the boss and Tanya." Then refer to your documented list of problems. Do not sugar coat it with words like, "sometimes" or "I feel" or "maybe." You don't say, "I feel like the deadlines she gives are unrealistic and that causes stress." You say, "The deadlines she gives are unrealistic. For instance..."
5. Be prepared for nothing to change. The manager's manager isn't taking care of the problem. One of the reasons why this happens is that this person made the hiring decision. If she acknowledges that this manager is an idiot, she also has to acknowledge that she made a poor hiring decision. People don't like to admit their faults, so they tend to ignore this type of problem for as long as possible.
I know it's unpleasant and scary. But, it's clear that the "wait and see" method isn't working. Speak up and speak up now. And keep your resume up to date.
Here is a List of Things Your Boss Won't Tell You
1. 'Yes, we are reading your emails (and your IMs)
Many financial services firms monitor the daily emails, instant messages and social networking activity of its employees. They use an email monitoring software to flag certain types of messages and keywords within messages.
That's fairly extensive, but many firms are, at the very least, monitoring some of employees' Internet, phone and email use, especially larger companies and those in sensitive or heavily regulated industries.
2. 'I know when you're faking the flu.'
The boss often knows if you're slacking off, job-hunting, sneaking out, faking sick or padding your expense report. In fact, a growing number of companies are hiring private investigators to track employees who call in sick with a suspicious illness, according to an article published last month in Bloomberg Businessweek. Perhaps it's a sign of tough times. More than one in four employers say they think more employees have been faking illness and taking the day off since the economic downturn began.
3. 'Your kid? Your problem.'
By now it's common knowledge that women earn less than men — about 81 cents for every dollar. Having a kid hurts women's earning potential even further. The so-called "mommy penalty" may manifest in many ways: A mother may get passed over for a promotion because the boss thinks she takes off too much time to care for her kids or that she's more concerned about the family than her career.
A mom may get overlooked for high-profile projects because the boss fears she won't devote enough time and energy. Those are hard slights to quantify. Not so for the penalty faced by women who take time off to raise a child — even for a period as short as 18 months.
4. 'I'm your best friend…'
For the six out of 10 workers who say they've considered a boss a friend, this won't come as a surprise: Being the boss's pal, or pet, comes with perks. Some bosses play favorites in obvious ways, like giving a particular subordinate the plum assignments or pushing upper management for his raise. Good relationships tend to lead to higher worker engagement; compatibility can help a worker get a raise or a promotion; everyone likes to work with people they like and trust.

You got the interview, now what? With the help of five career experts, MainStreet compiled the necessary tools to help you give your best interview, plus some helpful hints on how to land an interview in the first place.
Schedule Immediately
Chad Mihalick, founder of action sports and outdoor job site, Malakye.com recommends that "when you do have an opportunity to schedule an appointment, do not hesitate to respond. You should always be on call - like a doctor! Also use the opportunity to ask any pre-game questions you may have - such as who will be present at the interview and what support materials the interviewers might be interested in. Develop these questions when you begin your job search."
Confirm Your Appointment
The experts at the Dale Carnegie Institute, which offers professional training services, advise that "recruiters like correspondence that is short and sweet. When the interview is one day away, send an email confirming the appointment. If it is on the phone, make sure you have the right number. If it is in an office, make sure you know the floor and if you need any type of security credentials like a photo ID."
How to Prepare
In addition to putting together an outfit in which you feel confident and successful, make sure you do your homework on the company you are interviewing with. Research it online, follow it on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook if those options are available. Being informed will help you prepare interesting questions beforehand.
"One way to stand out in an interview is to ask questions. In addition to the most important basics — when they plan to hire for the position and if they contact all applicants or only those who are hired — my favorite questions to ask the interviewer are: What is a typical week like in this position? What are the opportunities for growth and advancement? Be sure to ask for their business card so you have correct contact information for the follow up thank you card," suggests career coach Stephanie Florman.
What to Bring
Frances Cole-Jones, media coach and author of The Wow Factor, suggests, "Bring two copies of your resume. That way when your interviewer doesn't have it in front of him/her, you can hand it to him. Yes, it's likely he or she will have misplaced it."
Other than your A-game, Dale Carnegie Training suggests bringing a notepad that is large enough to write on but small enough to be handled gracefully. Optional items include a list of references from past employment and/or a condensed portfolio of work if these pieces are easily portable.
When to Arrive
Media coach Cole-Jones notes that "you are interviewing from three blocks away: You don't know who is in the nearby Starbucks, the elevator, etc. You need to be on-site five minutes before. How you greet the receptionist will be noticed. Do not talk on the phone or send texts while you are waiting. Simply sit and observe."
Florman, the career coach, agrees and suggests "arriving to the interview location a half hour early. This gives you time to find parking, use the restroom, make sure your cell phone is turned on silent and to organize your thoughts. Once you are there, you can relax. Never be late."
Questions to Prepare For
Cole-Jones provided these common interview questions with suggestions on how to prepare for them:
Q: Why do you want to work for us?
Have a specific reason based on the company's history, products or reputation. Find ways that it intersects with your history and experience.
Q: What's your greatest strength/weakness?
Tell a story that demonstrates your strength or weakness. Don't fall back on useless modifiers like: "People say I'm an amazing leader." As your weakness, identify a strength you take to an extreme: "Sometimes I get so caught up in my subject that I give people too much information," for example.
Follow Up
Mihalick of Malakye.com thinks what you do after the interview counts a great deal in the employer's impression of you. "When your interview is over, FOLLOW UP! Send a follow up e-mail as soon as possible, a few hours later or the next day are good rules of thumb, regardless of if you think it went well. Say thanks, reiterate important points and tell them you're looking forward to finding out more about the next steps."
"E-mails are efficient," says Florman, the career coach, "but they are common and do not show great effort. I suggest a hand-written thank you note to follow up from an interview. Recap the interview by including the position you applied for, what you liked about the organization, why you would be a great fit for the position, and conclude by thanking them for their time and consideration."
If You Haven't Landed an Interview
Your resume needs a polish if you haven't landed an interview. As a career coach, Florman has worked with a huge variety of resumes and has found some best practices to follow.
"Include keywords that reflect the job posting and personalize the content for each position you are applying for. Print the resume on high quality laser paper and keep it to one page. Focus on the results you have achieved. Leaders achieve results."
Resume expert Amanda Collins goes further. "Statistics say a resume gets anywhere from five seconds to a minute or more for executives. You need to make your documents come to life to share your value in an instant."
She says that hiring is kind of like choosing a movie. You make your decision based on a) star power, b) word of mouth or c) the trailer. In evaluating you as an applicant, you may be well known in your industry (point a) or have a strong network of referrals (point b), but if you don't, you need a resume (point c) to really differentiate you from the competition.
Your resume should always answer the question, "Why should I hire you?"

How should you sit, act or just be in your interview? Although you'll likely be nervous, try to be yourself, as much as possible. Your face-to-face interview is your one opportunity to show the real you to your prospective employer, and may be the key to set you apart from other applicants. Also, keep in mind that sometimes the person who is interviewing you might also be nervous. Do what you can to feel as comfortable as possible, so you, in turn, can make them feel more comfortable.
In addition, "your body language should exude confidence. A strong, confident handshake goes a very long way. So do smiling, nodding and maintaining eye contact. Keep your voice clear and strong," suggests career coach Florman.
Cole-Jones recommends that you sit up and forward in your chair, because no one wants to hire someone who is "too cool for school." Also, keep your hands where others can see them. It's hard to trust someone when you can't see their hands.
How to answer the question: What salary are you looking for?
0 komentar Diposting oleh |toekang.blog| di 12.30Have a number in mind based on research you can do at the Bureau of Labor Statistics on salaries for similar positions in your area. Don't ask: "What are you offering?"
In How to Win Friends and Influence People, Dale Carnegie wrote that two great ways "to make people like you" are to "smile and remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sounds in any language."
Once your interview is done, address the interviewer by name, smile and offer genuine appreciation for the investment of his or her time in your future with the company. You want to leave the interviewer with a compelling impression of yourself, so remember to exude a blend of confidence, composure and dedication.

Confuse about what you should or shouldn't say in an interview? We compile them for you, so here you go ... seven things you should say in an interview
1. I am very familiar with what your company does.
Letting a prospective employer know that you are familiar with what a company does shows that you have a legitimate interest in the business and are not just wasting their time. Do your homework before arriving for an interview. Check out the company website for information about products and services. Search for the latest transactions and pertinent business news.
Be sure to let the interviewer know that you are familiar with the newest company acquisition or the latest product that was just developed. Explain how your skills and experience are a perfect fit for the employer.
2. I am flexible.
Work environments are always changing. Prospective employers are looking for candidates that are open to change and can adapt at a moment's notice. In today's fast paced business world, employees must have the ability to multi-task.
Stating that you are adaptable lets an employer know that you are willing to do whatever is necessary to get the job done. This may mean working additional hours or taking on additional job duties in a crunch. Show your potential employer that you are equipped to deal with any crisis situation that may arise.
3. I am energetic and have a positive attitude.
Employers are looking for candidates with optimism and a "can-do" attitude. Attitudes are contagious and have a direct affect on company morale. Let the optimist in you shine during the interview process.
Be sure to always speak positively about past employers. Negative comments and sarcastic statements about past employers and co-workers will make you look petty. If you bad mouth your past company, employers are liable to believe that you will do the same thing to them.
4. I have a great deal of experience.
This is your chance to shine. Highlight any previous job duties that relate directly to your new job. If it is a management position, state every time that you were responsible for the supervision, training and development of other employees. Discuss your motivational techniques and specific examples of how you increased productivity. Feel free to list any training classes or seminars that you have attended.
5. I am a team player.
Do you remember when you were young and your teacher wanted to know if you could work well with others? Well the job market is no different! Companies are looking for employees that are cooperative and get along well with other employees. Mentioning that you are a team player lets your prospective employer know that you can flourish in group situations. Employers are looking for workers that can be productive with limited supervision and have the ability to work well with others.
6. I am seeking to become an expert in my field.
Employers love applicants that are increasing their knowledge base to make themselves the best employees possible. Stating that you are aiming to become an expert causes employers to view you as an asset and not a liability. You are a resource that other employees can learn from.
This is also a subtle way of illustrating that you have an attitude of excellence. You are aiming to be the best at what you do! This will let employers know that you are not just a fly-by-night employee, but in it for the long run.
7. I am highly motivated.
A motivated employee is a productive employee. Talk about how your high level of motivation has led you to accomplish many things. If you are a meticulous worker, discuss your organizational skills and attention to detail. Companies are always looking for dependable employees that they can count upon.
The Bottom Line
Remember that a job interview is an opportunity to sell yourself to a prospective employer. Be sure to slip in the right phrases to give you the best chance possible of securing that cushy corner office on the ninth floor.

It is always recommended to get several auto insurance quotes, learn and compare, do not surprise if they come with different rates, that’s happen! Just do your home work which is to check the coverage, inclusion and exemption.

If you want to be promoted or have more control over your job responsibilities, there are additional things you can do to get positive attention. These extra efforts also can help you get promotions and performance increases, but of course your work will have to be good as well. Here are 10 tips to give you a leg up on the corporate ladder.
Dress and Groom for a Promotion
If you want to get ahead in an organization, dress and groom as if you work at the level you hope to reach next. This is not always possible, but at the very least be clean and well-groomed. Wear clothes that fit well and look good on you. Copy the clothing styles of others in the organization who are successful. Even when your coworkers see you away from the office, present the image you want for yourself at work.
Be Early and Stay Late
Get to work early each day. Use this time to list what you plan to get done that day. At the end of the day, leave at least a few minutes after quitting time. Let the boss know that you are willing to stay late to meet an important deadline. If you do stay late, let the boss know!
Be Enthusiastic
Go out of your way to find ways to enjoy your job. Tell others what you like about it, particularly those you work with. Emphasize those parts of your job that you like to do and do well. Share this enthusiasm, even in conversations with your friends. Go out of your way to tell your supervisor what you like about your job. This will help you focus on the parts of your job you do best and want to develop. It also will help others notice that you do those things well.
Ask for More Responsibility
Be willing to take on more responsibility. Let the boss know you want to move up. As soon as you begin a new job, look for ways to learn new things. Volunteer to help out in ways you feel will make you more valuable to the organization. And ask for advice about what you can do to be more valuable to the organization.
Ask for Training
Get as much training as possible! Take any training that is available from your employer. Even if it is not in your area of responsibility, it may help you gain new skills in other areas. Define what training you need to do your job better. If it is not available through your employer, explain to your supervisor how the training will help the organization. Ask for help in finding the best training source.
Learn on Your Own Time
Decide what you need to learn to get ahead or to get the job you want. Take evening classes. Instead of watching TV at home, read books and magazines on related subjects. Stay up with what is going on in your field. Computer skills and the use of new technologies are very important.
Take on Difficult Projects
You won't get much positive attention unless you do more than is expected of you. Look for projects you think you can do well, and would benefit the organization in some clear way. Don't promise too much, and keep a low profile while you do the work. If no one expects too much, it is easier to be seen as successful, even if your results are not as good as you had hoped.
Get Measurable Results
Look for some way to measure the results of your work. Keep records of what you do. Compare your results to past performance or the average performance of others in similar situations. If your results look good, send a report to your supervisor. For example, if the number of orders went up 40 percent over the same month last year with no increase in staff, that's a big accomplishment.
Look for Ways to Present What You Do in Numbers
Monitor your influence on:
* Dollars saved
* Percent of increased sales
* Number of persons served
* Number of units processed
* Size of budget
Don't Just Quit
Sometimes a job just doesn't work out. Maybe you feel that you won't get ahead there. It is often better to begin looking for another job than to allow yourself to get negative. But ask for a job change within the organization before you give up. Or be more assertive in asking your boss for more responsibility or different assignments.
If you do decide to leave, begin looking for a job but don't share this with coworkers. Make every effort to do your job and be positive. When you find another job, give thirty days notice if at all possible. Remember that your next employer will want to contact your previous ones, so do be as friendly and as productive as possible in your final days.
